“WHAT IS ON THE CURRENT SITE"

UNDERSTANDING THE BUSINESS

In order to get to know my client and their services, I met with the owners and other staff who interact with the customers. I was able to understand what currently was working and what needed improvement. In addition, I also thoroughly went through their site.

“WHAT IS FORDERER DOORS?“

THE PROPOSAL

Forderer Doors is an independently owned family business selling doors, frames and hardware. Their clients are mainly a collection of architects, contractors. The website hadn’t been updated in a couple of years and Forderer Doors hired me to streamline their current e-commerce platform for their clients and to reflect a more modern web layout.

“WHAT GOES WHERE?"

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

Most of what I found had to deal with consolidating and organizing the products and services sold on the site. In order to avoid any confusion I developed three very clear sections of products; those being detention, hardware, and installation. In addition I rearranged, renamed, and consolidated pages within the navigation bar.

“CHECKING IN AND DEVELOPING DESIGNS"

CLIENT MEETINGS

In order to verify that my work was clearly understood, I would often make visits to the office in Hayward. After relaying my design decisions with Forderer Doors, I was then able to take these templates and translate them into illustrator.

“FINALIZING THE WEBSITE"

PRESENTING TO CLIENTS

After working out details and narrowing down to the final designs it was time to hand it over to a developer. The fundamental code for the site was written by myself and then handed off to an outside software engineer to add additional features. The website is soon to be launched.
